Peter Kelly -2009

Born into the Labour movement in 1953, Peter was a stalwart of the Labour Party in Salford and the wider North West. In 1977 he was elected to the Greater Manchester council serving with distinction, until its abolition in the late 1980s and was chair of the police committee. He fought the Macclesfield constituency in the 1983 General Election and played a very active part in the Regional Labour Party. Also active in his Union, the PCS and know for his support of Lancashire cricket club, Pete truly was a giant in the local Labour movement and will be sorely missed in the coming months and years.
