Donny was an extremely well liked member of the community in Ipswich – a qualified football referee, an electrician and active member of his union, a longstanding member of the Labour Party and a councillor for the Gainsborough ward for 30 years from 1979 to 2009.
His politics were very heavily influenced by his war-time evacuation as a child to Sheffield, and he remained committed throughout his life to advancing the interests of working people.
Donny died at the age of 76 on the May Bank Holiday weekend 2011. He would have been delighted to see Labour take control of Ipswich Borough Council on the following Thursday, which duly happened with a gain of 5 seats.
Donny leaves behind his much loved wife Wanda, son Davie and Grand-children Charlene, Alexander and Emily.
