At every meeting of Labour’s National Executive Committee, committee representatives pay tribute to the contribution of party members who have recently passed away. Party staff receive notice of deaths from local parties, or former parliamentary or council colleagues. Very often a member or friend takes time to write an obituary for their departed colleague or loved one.
The committee always stands for one minute in a silent tribute to contribution of their departed comrades. It’s very moving.
I’ve been collecting the obituaries since I was on the committee. And since I’ve been the vice chair of the party, my colleague Julie Lawrence, has shared her collection of obituaries with me. They go back about ten years. I’m going to add them to the site over the next few months.
These people in their own way made the Labour Party. They deserve a lasting tribute.
