Nick clegg’s web site enthuses the parliamentary lobby team

The Downing Street spokesman was asked if the date of the referendum on
voting reform would be announced tomorrow – or
‘sometime next week’.

He replied, ” When we can give you some guidance we will.”

He was asked if there were any plans to fly the Saltire tomorrow for
Andy Murray’s Wimbledon match. He replied, ” I do not think
we have any plans to do that at this time.”

He was asked if the Prime Minister had any views on the restitution of
the death penalty or a new law to allow ‘human beings to marry
horses’ (proposals received since the Deputy Prime Minister launched his
website today asking the public to nominate laws and
regulations they would like abolished and adopted).

The spokesman replied, ” I think we shall let that process continue. We
will be responding to it (the public suggestions) in due
course.”

” So, you are not ruling it out then, ” asked a correspondent.

He replied, ” I do not want to make any precipitate comments, especially
on the horse issue.”

Another correspondent asked about the law requiring citizens to file a
report to the police every time they see a grey squirrel in their
garden – ‘an offence, I must admit, I have committed many times’.

It was put to him that the Government had just announced a review of
Government websites, saying they wanted to examine whether
they provided value for money. There was, said a correspondent, already
a website for ‘crackpot proposals’ – that was the Downing
Street website. Why did the Deputy Prime Minister have to set up his own
website for crackpot proposals. Was this not the
duplication the review had been set up to avoid.

” We are trying to engage the public and using the internet is one way
of doing that, ” said the spokesman. ” I can see you are not
enthused by this idea, ”

What are you trying to achieve with this post? Showing that a Government cannot be completely consistent on cutting waste.

Although it takes nerve for Labour to criticise the Government on cutting waste what with the GBP44 billion in cuts you said you would do but never announced (I think something about losing the election) and then the whole fuss about “peacepods”. If you are so worried about the front line why did you spend the equivalent to 4 nurses on these pods? Save your petty attacks please.

Support the National Government in helping Britain back on its feet.

I really dont know what NIck Clegg and others thought they would get from setting a web site up for people to comment on, I hope they realised that the public are very sceptical about what is happening at the moment and will have their say. I dread to think what some are saying I hope they have thick skin they will need it.

The comments left on this site reflect the seriousness that people are giving this idea. There is a general sense of unbelievability surrounding people particularly if in the public sector at the moment. Uncertaintity and anxiety rule the roost.

Nick Clegg is talking about a squirrel in the garden when the real problem is the elephant in the room. Nick backed the scrapping of the Digital Economy Act that was scandalously rushed through in the last government’s ‘wash-up’, but now he seems to be cooling on the issue. If everybody was so against this bill why (1) did it get passed by a respectable margin and (2) why are they not now accepting that it is a poorly framed piece of legislation that does is neither practicable not in the public interest?

Yawn, from Mike’s comment I see the tory web team is still on the payroll.

Mr Watson,
I welcome the new freedom website setup by the government. So should any sane, rational person concerned with our rightful freedoms and liberties. At least they speak of restoring our civil liberties and the repeal of unjust laws. Which is more than New Labour ever did. All New Labour ever seemed to be concerned about is what they could find to ban and prohibit next. Presently I hope they NEVER return to power, but only time will tell if the coalition mean what they say regarding unjust laws and civil liberties etc.

There is much interesting debate to be found on the site at: http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/
