Moonpig – not very good

Now they tell me. This just in:

Your Prepay will expire in 14 days

Dear Tom

Just under 2 years have passed since you last ordered a card with us at Moonpig. You currently have £18.80 Prepay credit left on your account so we wanted to let you know that if you don’t place an order within the next 14 days this credit will be marked as unused and will expire.

We are always adding new cards, new features and helpful functionality to the site, so click here and visit Moonpig to see what’s new.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact our Customer Service team who’ll be happy to help.

Best wishes,

The moonpig team

That’s not very good is it.

Welcome to rip off Britain. I’m surprised that you’re surprised.

I can tell you a hundred other scams, abuses and price fixing that occur every day. Most of these breach the competition act, but there is more chance of hell freezing over than the OFT waking from its permanent slumber.

Why not use some of that credit to send a card to Moonpig themselves at Studio 2, 92 Lots Road, London SW10 0QD, telling them exactly what you think of their expiration policy?

Whilst I have no sympathy as you’re using moonpig and not moo.com, I feel I should defend a little bit.

This is actually an accounting issue. Having a book full of credit owed to customers that never expires, but probably will never be used, can severely diminish the cash value of a company unfairly.

I used Moonpig once to send my sister a birthday card. What she received was a “get well soon after your hip operation” card. Kiss that £18 goodbye!

Exactly, what are you complaining about if you haven’t used the service in 2 years? It has probably cost them more in administration than your measely £18.80.

being a bloke I can see why you haven’t sent a card in 2 years, being a women I use this site all the time, especially when you live aboard, and haven’t had any problems yet.

ellie being a bloke I’ve not sent a card in 15 years, thats what I got the wife for (or one of the reasons) so it’s not the pig he has a problem with he should get a woman.

hmm
Why did you prepay if you didnt plan to buy anymore cards. I see this as good business sense to be honest and more than likely has something to do with there audits. im sure they cant be seen to hold people money indefinately. there not a bank after all.

2 years isn’t *that* long – Moonpig should be doing better than that! Luckily there are alternatives – try Funky Pigeon or Yoodoo

It is irritating, it happens with prepay phones too. You don’t use the credit ( which is there for emergencies which thank god never happen) and zap, they take the money. No company should do this unless it said clearly when you prepaid that this would happen. I can’t recall seeing this. I like the idea of sending them a card telling them what you think of them….and hey, make someone’s day and send a card. To your mum, your sister….gran? They are lovely things to send….

Sorry, just one more comment. I’ve been online with moonpig twice this year to order cards and guess what they are experiencing problems….so I can’t order. Just been on now July 2010 and YES…again. Can’t order…..
