They privatise the houses of Parliament. Doesn't mean they necessarily will. Labour privatised education, now they want to privatise the debt cused by that, and the Post Office and we here today health services. Let's face at least with the Tores you know what you are getting the others just bring it in when they get into power havingdenied they would do it in the first place.

Tom I love your idea to house the Staffordshir hoard at THE PUBLIC. Just the kind of out of the box thinking we need.

You're right Tom - privatising the Met Office is a stupid idea. It's also an idea that the Treasury under both Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling have frequently demanded be put on the table in spite of opposition from the Civil Service, Meteorologists, and the Unions (see below).

Will the Labour Government commit not to privatise the Met Office if re-elected?

A one-of-burst of income (in exchange for annual fees in many cases) is going to do nothing to solve the year-on-year deficit, and much of the time will worsen it.

The numbers, much as with PFI, simply don’t add up—provided you’re actually in possession of them, which every Chancellor (Labour and Tory alike) for the last 15 years or so has gone to lengths to ensure people aren’t.

This privatisation lark is starting to get tiresome, to say the least.
