Harry Patch

Goodbye Harry Patch. You were the last. Never an unknown soldier.

I met Harry only once in 2008. He was frail and in his wheelchair but his handshake was strong and his smile warm. A sad aspect of his passing is that the French and Belgium goverments honoured him but the mean-spirited British goverment did not. Harry would not have wanted a CBE for himself but he would have wanted it for his mates. A grand yet unassuming man who was also a man of principle. Rest in peace Harry.
