Pot plant Tory Jacob Rees Mogg articulates his position

Tory PPC for North East Somerset Jacob Rees-Mogg is a bit of a stickler for the correct use of the English language.
In 2006 he said:

“We don’t want to make it harder for intellectually able people to be Tory party candidates. The Tory party, when it’s elected, has to be able to form a government and it’s not going to be able to form a government if it has potted plants as candidates simply to make up quotas.”

He added: “When you go to an MP, you want somebody who will write an articulate letter to the social services or whoever it is to get your problem sorted out.”

I’m sure the people of North East Somerset will be glad to know that they have the opportunity to elect such an upstanding and intellectually able person with the ability to write an articulate letter on their behalf.

He might though want exercise some of that articulate writing on a survey carried on his website here.

A few of my favourites include:

“What do you fell is the most important issue for your age group at the moment?”

“Do you feel that the UK is over-riding freedons in the name of fighting terror”

“Alernative affordable energy sources”

“Whereabouts do you work?”

Ok, not a misspelling but hardly the Queen’s English.

“Which Party do you think most reflects our views at the moment?”

and,

Inviting a few freiends round to meet Jacob.

Thanks for this insight Tom. You might now want to look at the first few paragraphs of ‘About Tom Watson’, then take the beam out of your own eye, before doing more nit-picking about others … if I’m not mixing my metaphors, or being too pedantic about the proper use of grammar and punctuation. What encouraged me to do that I wonder ?

Excellent street slang on your ‘teens’ page though, do you do a good ‘dad’s dance’ as well ?

Have a nice day.

Hands in the air Rob – I’m very bad at spelling. I don’t go around insulting people by calling them pot plants. I probably dance like one though.

I have to admit I’m a bit of a stickler about spelling, I also have fat fingers and make typo’s like that all the time.

Doesn’t mean I call people pot plants though.

Making up “quotas”, he must mean those who are not white, male and priveledged.

There are the makings of some positive, citizen-friendly Labour polices in some parts of govt, so, Tom, why not root them out and show them to us? They involve making public services better by having competent regulators rather than out-of-their-depth central govt departmental civil servants – a really useful paradigm shift.
