Er, I think you mean “the first black female MP to become a minister in history” don’t you Tom. I know you are unlikely to see eye-to-eye with Diane Abbott on political issues, but go easy on the airbrushing of history, eh?

I was campaigning in the 2005 General Election and Diane came on a visit to drum up support. We were busy handing out leaflets on a busy high street when a couple of people came rushing up saying they couldn’t stop, they were on their way to work but they had seen her from the bus and had to get off and come back and say hello (and thanks, I think). They hurried back off to get the next bus, avowing strong support for Diane and the candidate for whom she was campaigning that day – Dawn Butler.

A seat as safe as they come. Does that not count Caroline?

this treachery thing…seems to me it’s easy to get it ass backwards. the labour movement isn’t about leaders, it’s about people. dawn butler, heiress to many significant struggles for recognition of rights, sure has her work cut out…when there are life- long labour voters talking of gnawing their arms off at the elbow rather than vote labour again, maybe it’s high time to ask who and what was betrayed?
