Jorge Camoes has a mission. He wants to help the world make sense of the ocean of data that we are beginning to swim in. Jorge wants you to understand and make sense of data because as he says on his blog:
* knowing how to make sense of data is an essential skill for the future;
* we need help to manage this growing volume of information we are exposed to;
* the average information management skills are too low;
* some of the available skills are actually wrong and do more harm than good;
* some skills are easy to learn and could have a dramatic impact in productivity in the workplace;
OK, he’s specialised in Excel but that’s not the end of the world. I’m going to email the URL of his blog to colleagues who work with me in the Cabinet Office. Wouldn’t it be great if could help present our data in some of the exciting formats he examines on his site.

Hi Tom, thanks for your kind words.
I discuss Excel as a charting tool just because it is available to almost everyone (I’d like to add examples in OpenOffice, for example). But the principles of good information visualization are relatively simple and independent of the tool you are using.
