David Singleton of PR Week

Flattered as I am to be unexpectedly described by PR Week as a member of the union wing of David Miliband’s “Circle of Power”, I have to disappoint. With his lineage, David has much more credible trade union roots.

I understand that the author of the article, a Mr David Singleton, is applying for jobs in the parliamentary lobby. If successful, I would be delighted to meet him. Until that glorious day arrives, I guess he’ll just continue to write stories about people without checking the facts.

Thanks to Neil Diamond loving Sam Coates for the hat tip.

You stick to supporting Gordon. Please.

Tom, I’m sorry that you didn’t get a chance to have some input in to this diagram but I would like to point out that it was informed by a number of credible sources and I’m yet to be made aware of any factual errors. I should also state for the record that I have never applied for a job in the lobby.

Don’t tell me, you’re miffed that someone has made a comment about you without having the courtesy to check with you first. How does that make you feel David?

And for the record: your story was factually completely incorrect.

You might like to know that I’ve spoken to several other people who appeared on your diagram and they also say your story was factually completely incorrect. One of them told me that he’d never actually met David Miliband.

The other thing you might want to know: A number of proper journalists from national newspapers have phoned about this story today. The one consolation was that all of them wanted to laugh at your nonsensical analysis.

David, your lovely diagram mentions “last year’s plot” - did I miss one or are you so shoddy in your reporting you actually meant 2006 but failed to notice your glaring error?

Hahahaha! I didn’t spot that. At least he did better than Julie Moult, who claimed that the practice of Googlebombing began 5 to 8 years before Google existed.

While your inclusion as an agitator for a Miliband premiership was indeed hilarious, it wasn’t half so funny as Singleton’s idea that Alastair Campbell is set for a return to the frontline under the Boy David.

Now seriously, why would Miliband or any other Labour leader want to do that, when the party’s chances of a fourth election victory depend entirely on convincing the electorate that it has something fresh and new to offer post-Blair.

I hope Singleton gets a job in the Lobby, mind - it will be almost as entertaining as reading Rosa Prince’s stuff.

I think you guys are missing the point. Having seen the diagram it looks like it’s highlighting an inner circle and who that inner circle knows rather than a fully formed team. To suggest that it says that AC is set for a return to frontline politics is plain stupid. Still I suppose it’s more fun to hurl ‘hilarious’ insults at someone rather than let the facts get in the way.

Having seen the diagram, I was pointing out a glaring mistake which was a basic error of fact.

And as for “highlighting an inner circle and who that inner circle knows” - you’re suggesting that this is basically a political version of “six degrees of Kevin Bacon?”

Of course Tom is in the Milliband camp, after all Gordon, and Labour, are dead meat. The wise men are planning New Labour v2, after they lose the next election and come back after that. Half the Cabinet wont exist in the labour party after they lose.

As an aside Tom needs to watch out. He might have fun in the land of geeks but that wont win an election - might not even allow him to retain his seat.
