This morning’s surgery brought a man who told me about the “foreigner” who had been in the country for only three days and was already complaining that his benefits were late. This is not an uncommon misconception of how the UK benefits system works and one that I was grateful for the opportunity to put right for my constituent.
But it does show how rumours can cause social, economic and political damage. Here’s an analysis from the Washington Post about the email rumours concerning Barrack Obama and a little insight into how his campaign deal with them.
