Fakery at Tory party conference

Remember Jeremy Hunt? As soon as he said “we don’t want any fakery at our conference do we”, I made a mental note for when the chickens came home to roost. Hopi Sen has ensured that we didn’t have to wait long. The most inept use of photoshop of the year award goes to the five, sorry six Conservative parliamentary candidates for Worcestershire.

UPDATE:

This appears to be the picture that was doctored in order to insert Karen Lumley into the photo.

The bottom photograph is from the Conservative candidate for Wyre Forest’s web site. It has the caption “With the Worcestershire selected Parliamentary Candidates and MPs at the Conservative Party Conference in Bournemouth, October 2006.” Similarly, the Conservative candidate for Worcester, Robin Walker, describes the photograph in a caption “At Conference with my fellow candidates and MPs from Worcestershire”.

Clearly, in regard to Ms Lumley, this is not the case. Tory candidates Mark Garnier and Robin Walker must have known this, assuming they are not photoshopped into the picture as well.

What an unsavoury lot. One would have thought a photoshop image would have improved the photo but alas not.

[...] Last month I wrote about fakery at the Conservative Party conference. West Midlands Conservatives had doctored a photograhph in order to insert a missing candidate. Not a big deal but poignant given the ridiculous calls they made about my colleague James Purnell at their conference. [...]

[...] Withal, Tory-chap-who-took-Cicero-with-me hadn’t so much as crossed my mind in over half a decade when suddenly, hanging around the blogs one day, as is my wont, I come across a name on Lib Dem Voice that rings a bell, and a few clicks later I am looking at  said chap peeping out of a photoshopped Tory mock-up! Yes, my erstwhile co-classicist is Robin Walker, Tory PPC for Worcester, his father’s old constituency. Good grief! thinks I. I wonder what he’s been up to? Hm, he left university and started his own business. Ve-ry nice. Then after that went into press communications in the finance and industrial sectors. Thence to the PPC candidature. There are those who would use phrases like “well-worn groove” to describe this particular path of progress. [...]
