I’d missed this article about former colleague at defence, Paul Drayson. He could definitely be the fourth presenter on Top Gear, such is is love of the motor vehicle. I kind of admire him for that. As Healey said, every politician needs a hinterland.

Lord Drayson has just resigned, replaced by Ann Taylor (Baroness Taylor of Bolton). Well done to him, hope he wins in Le Mans, but it’s the strangest reason for a ministerial resignation that I’ve ever heard for.
I see Paul Drayson has now taken a “leave of absence” to try and qualify for Le Mans. He’ll be sorely missed at the MOD. His work on the Defence Industrial Strategy has been pretty good and could be a model for government procurement across all departments.
Yes – well done to him for resigning to go and race cars. After all it’s not as if the Armed Forces are busy at the moment. Maybe they could all follow his example?
It doesn’t worry me!
