Conservatives on Iain Dale

I was enjoying the comments under the Conservativehome story about the parliamentary selection in Maidstone.

“Anyone but Dale please!!! We need a heavyweight, not the political equivalent of Heat Magazine.

“Iain Dale with the track record of turning a Lib Dem majority of 500 into one of 11,000. I think not.”

Then the editor stepped in with this: “Enough comments about Iain now thank you!”

I’d have done the same under the circumstances, but it does seem a shame that we can’t closely follow Iain’s path to Maidstone victory. Isn’t it curious that he says so little about it on his blog.

Jesus, I really must be worrying the Labour Party if they put up their little attack terrier to deal with me. Let’s gace it, you’re no Fraser Kemp.

or even, face it…

Wha ha ha.

I’ve just talked to Fraser. He’d never heard of you.

How’s it going in Maidstone? Does Anne know you’re a blasphemer?

Ho ho ho. After all those denials and all. I’d have thought Iain might be more worried about Tories calling him a joke entry and quoting his stats than anything that any of us might say.

The sooner Iain is Shadow Mimicster for Blogging the happier the Labour Front Bench Spokesman on Blogs and the rest of us will be.

And Fraser will be happy too. Iain will probably stop quoting the killer paragraph in his Coffeee House posts and nicking all the traffic.

He might also give Nadine Dorries a bit of competition for British Computer Society-recognised ”Princess/Prince of the MP Blogs”?. Although Nads has taken that title on to herself she was actually, at a stretch, arguably, and being kind tied for 13th with George Galloway. Lynne Featherstone meanwhile was 2nd equal.

Adam Price won overall. And Labour MPs won each of the three sub categories. Ms Dorries was not a finalist in any of them or overall.

On second thoughts Tom I really do think you should stop teasing Iain Dale, MP?

Interesting – if Iain does stand I wonder how much use his campaign will make of modern technology? Will we see:

A Dale4Maidstone Facebook Group?
A Dale4Maidstone blog?
Dale4Maidstone adverts on 18 Doughty Street (I have no idea whether it takes adverts) or on Message Space?
Dale4Maidstone TV

Who knows? Come on Iain, tell us – we promise not to tell anyone else.

God, you guys really need to get out more. Why not wait for a selection process to wind up and see who is the chosen candidate?

If I were him I’d keep quiet because the minute he gets selected the opposing blogosphere are going to have a field day.

Iain also better hope he doesn’t do what he did last time in terms of votes because he’ll be laughed off the Internet if he does!

Er, Letters From A Tory, shut up and wait and see like the people that Tom is quoting from Conservative Home? I hope Iain wins the selection myself. Various reasons for that.

Mike: I expect Guido and Dizzy will be keeping a close eye on the internet registries for any suspicious activity.

Tom,why don’t you just keep your focus on licking Gordon’s boots, anything else and your clearly out of your depth.

I am no knee-jerk defender of Iain Dale, but I would have to ask some of the posters on this thread whether, if they were applying for parliamentary selection, they would publicise those applications on their blogs. Given that the Labour Party quite understandably judges its selection processes to be an internal matter, I would respectfully suggest that the answer would almost always be no.

Iain Dale is a deceitful, manipulative so-and-so, but Paul raises a very good point here. Even if the selection processes are different, someone in a very similar position to Dale regarding potential candidacy shouldn’t really be mouthing off at him about this.
