Positive campaigning in Ealing Southall

This is certainly a most peculiar by-election. I find myself a spectator during the mother of all scraps between the Lib Dems and the Tories. The dancing around handbags award for Tuesday goes to the Lib Dems, who have just recruited the former Deputy Chair of Ealing Southall Conservatives, who claims:

“Under David Cameron the Conservatives have become a party of style over substance. I agree with everything that Quentin Davies said about Mr Cameron.

This by-election reflects Mr Cameron’s contempt for local Conservative members. His spin doctors ignored our wishes and forced the branch to accept someone whose commitment to the party is less than a week old. Almost all local Conservative party members feel like I do.

I was talking to someone on the doorstep last night who described David Cameron and the Conservative candidate as a “marriage of two opportunists”. Not sure about that but one thing is certain –  politics is lively around here.
