The sun is shining on a glorious day in Ealing. There is never a dull moment in this by-election.

It was a lot easier in my day when we only had “us and them” to understand society. Now we have cultural divisions, economic divisions, tactical divisions, idealogical divisions – need I go on.

Does the disappearance of Sunny’s post mean that Gurcharan Singh is not defecting?

What about the Labour defections Tom? Evidence of Brown’s Change?

Mitch, As a local activist in Ealing Southall, and Chair of one of the Branch Labour parties, I can assure you these defections have little to do with Gordon Brown, and everything to do with the individual personalities involved – The defections are entirely self-serving – and to be honest a case of toys out the pram and sour grapes.

From Gurcharan Singh’s weblog:

“I have met Mr Blair in person on numerous occasions over the last few years. From those interactions the impression I took away was that he was a man committed to doing what he believed to be right at the time. Unwaveringly.

“Despite all the spin, internal innuendos within the party and of course Iraq, he remained staunchly dedicated to the people of Great Britain and for this he has my firm admiration.”

How things have changed in twelve days. Nevertheless, it’s not good for the party.

It’s good for the party because, as I’ve previously pointed out in my blog, the best thing that can happen to Southall Labour party is that factional and divisive candidates like GS are flushed out.

As Joe says above, this is everything to do with GS throwing his toys out of the pram for not being selected as the candidate.

The post is back up, I took it down briefly to update and confirm a few things.

[...] Oh, and Tom Watson was linking to Sunny’s article when I got up at 7am this morning, which shows how much of surprise it was to him, despite Dale’s efforts to spin this as a ’shock’. [...]

Luke has spotted Gurch the Lurch cleaning up his old blog posts – including his appreciation of Piara Khabra. I have blogged the original texts.

BTW Tom – anything on Nigel? Enough of the bigging up the Tory, what about the threat from Nige?
