The point Tom was making is that Dale said Tom was despicable for calling attention to the wavering name of Mr Lit for electoral advantage. Yet in 2004 Dale had called the same tactic as used by the Lib Dems as racist. Tom was merely drawing attention to Dale’s hypocrisy.
