Tony Blair gave in to Republicans

Well he gave in if you believe this interview with Peter Mandelson, the recording of which was published by the Guardian after Mandelson says that they misquoted him.

It must be habit forming then Tom, because he gave in to the US Republicans too.

Gave in to Europe, gave in to the US NeoCons, gave in to Rupert Merdoch, gave in to Brown over public sector “reform” (aka spending a lot for not a lot), gave in to the public sector over pension rights, gave in to the teaching unions over league tables, gave in to the petrol protesters, gave in to backbenchers over the illiberal banning of fox hunting, gave in to Chirac over the continuation of agricultural subsidy, gave in to the EU over our rebate, gave in to the Doctors/BMA over out-of-hours working and pay, gave in to the green lobby over taxation and climate change and now gave in to the IRA. Not even a politicial of Mandelson’s integrity would give in to the IRA. That says a lot about Blair.
Tom – can you spot a trend here?
What an excellent PM Blair has made (Not). How well has he met your expectations on May 1st 1997?

Bob’s got it in one. Mandy is insisting he has been stitched up. But the Guardian putting out the tape nails his tail spin.

Listening to the tape it makes you think what a smug, condescending, self-satisfied and mediocre person Mandelson is. You can almost here the exasperation of the interviewer when Mandelson starts to explain what Blair meant by the ‘policy is the process’, as if it were as complicated as ‘Being and Nothingness’, when in actual fact most ten year olds could probably understand it almost immediately.
