I’m baffled by people taking punts on politics. It always strikes me as less certain than dog racing, which must be the most random of betting recreations. I have an academic friend though who has made a tidy sum over the years though, usually spread betting on the size of election majorities. Anyway, if you want a more exotic political bet – have a look at this site that tracks opinion polls for the 2007 elections in Australia.

I put a bet on Jon Cruddas to win the Deputy Leadership contest at Ladbrookes online. Before that I had never betted in my life, indeed I’ve never even walked into a betting shop! Am looking forward to cashing in my winnings. Hopefully it will be just in time for my summer hols….:-)
