Sunday night out

I’ve spent the evening at a friend’s baptism at the Walsall Christian Centre. I was a little nervous although there was no need to be of course, as is inveriably the case with these things. The congregation were incredibly friendly and boy can they sing and play their instruments. My friend told me that one of the guitarists used to play with Judas Priest but I wasn’t sure if he was having me on. His entire family were baptised together. They’ve had some tough times in recent years but I’ve never seen a happier scene.

The pastor who gave the sermon used a great line: “you cannot hope in the past” (you can only hope in the future being the inference). It reminded me of a line in the Go-Between: “The past is another country – they do things differently there”. I might put that on the office wall this year.
