A remarkable story, if it is true, from the next door constituency to mine. Did someone try to assasinate a parliamentary candidate? Ministry of Truth reports that someone fired a gun at a BNP councillor and parliamentary candidate in a Tipton pub that he also manages. This one completely passed me by.

Death threats seem to be quite commonplace.

I’m really not sure that the business of being erroneously ‘fingered’ as a Blairite in Tribune is necessarily relevant to these threats or that the candidate should be openly making remarks of that kind unless he’s got a fair inkling of where this is coming from and is sure that it is ‘internal’.
ARI? No, not one I’ve ever come across on either the left or right.
Could be something personal or just a complete nutter, I suppose.
The ‘AR’ in ARI could stand for something like ‘animal rights’ – the guy’s not openly pro-animal testing, is he?
And okay, this is Rochdale and the guy does have a Polish surname, so we can’t rule out the local fascist nutters, either.
I do hope this is not something coming from within the party up there – but if there is any hint of that then North-West Regional need to get in their sharpish and clean things out.
This is not good, wherever its coming from.
[...] To make matters even more interesting, the Mercury has managed to add a little more depth to the story and, in doing do, offered an explanation for Tom Watson’s obvious puzzlement as to why it was that he wasn’t aware that an ‘assassination attempt’ had been mounted on a parliamentary candidate in the constitutency next door. [...]
Well, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t included in the recent community cohesion report undertaken for Sandwell Council. (see http://www.cohesioninstitute.org.uk – in the reports and publications section).
